Meetlete is a San Diego-based startup revolutionizing fan engagement in the sports industry. The Meetlete app offers fans the unique opportunity to engage in real-time video conversations with their favorite athletes and sports talents. As a UX/UI Designer at Meetlete, my role was to transform the existing app design into a modern and user-friendly interface that aligns with current design trends.
Objectives
The main objectives of the redesign were to:
- Create a modern and fresh app design that would attract users and investors.
- Improve the user flow to make it easier for fans to achieve their goals in the app.
- Improve the athlete/talent flow to make it easier for them to accept bookings, view a list of upcoming calls, call fans, see the amount of money they have earned, and more.
The Problem
Meetlete's initial app design, developed as a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), faced challenges in content organization, user experience, and aesthetic appeal. With the company's growth, the need arose to showcase the app to potential users and investors. My task was to improve the user journey, enhance the design, and introduce new features that were in the pipeline.
Design Process
Discovery and Research
To gain a comprehensive understanding of the project scope, I engaged in remote meetings and discussions with CEO Rob Connolly. Despite being in different countries, we utilized various platforms and Zoom meetings for effective communication. This step aimed to identify pain points, goals, and expectations.
User Flow Enhancement
Based on the research conducted by Meetlete's team, I undertook the task of refining the user flows for both fans and athletes. I focused on streamlining the onboarding for both athletes and talents, booking process for fans and providing athletes with tools to manage their schedules, earnings, and interactions.
UI Mockups
To maintain consistency and cohesiveness across the app, I established a comprehensive design system. This system encompassed typography, color schemes, icons, buttons, and other design elements. The design system facilitated efficient collaboration and a unified look and feel.
Building upon the existing design, I developed a refreshed and contemporary user interface. This included refining visual elements, layouts, and incorporating the design system components. The UI mockups aimed to convey a modern and engaging app experience.
Interactive Prototype
Using Figma, I translated the UI mockups into interactive prototypes. This allowed stakeholders to visualize the app's functionality, transitions, and user interactions. The prototypes provided an accurate representation of the final user experience.
Outcomes
Through the iterative design process, Meetlete's app underwent a significant transformation:
- Enhanced Aesthetics: The app's visual appeal was elevated to align with modern design trends, fostering a more engaging user experience.
- Optimized User Flows: Fans could now seamlessly navigate the app to book conversations with their favorite athletes, while athletes gained tools for efficient schedule management and earnings tracking.
- Unified Design Language: The implementation of a design system resulted in a consistent and cohesive visual identity across the app's interface.
The Meetlete app redesign was a collaborative effort to address initial design challenges and elevate the user experience. By focusing on user flows, design aesthetics, and functionality, the app was positioned as a compelling platform for fans and athletes alike.
